Far Eastern Group is one of Taiwan’s most diversified conglomerates with 200 companies ranging from textiles, cement, shipping and hotels. Douglas Jefferson “Jeff” Hsu, the son of FEG’s chairman, had an unconventional career path prior to joining the family business: He’s a former U.S. Marine who’s fought in Iraq and went to design school before moving to Taiwan in 2013. He spoke to Bloomberg’s Yvonne Man about bringing innovation to FEG and how his East-meets-West background is shaking up the 70-year-old family business.
